KAKU ON THE WINTER SOLSTICE
Game of Thrones fans know it well… Winter was coming and now "Winter is here!" So says the King of the North, or, in this case, Earth’s northern hemisphere. The Winter Solstice is here and that means winter. As Americans bundle up for the coldest part of the season, CBS NEWS science and futurist contributor, Dr. Michio Kaku, joins CBSN on the shortest day of the year to discuss the Earth’s rotation and what it means for humans around the globe. KAKU ON WHY THE UNIVERSE EXISTS
Our universe, with equal parts matter and antimatter, is fundamentally symmetrical. Beautiful as that notion seems, it gives rise to a startling paradox with truly existential ramifications. If matter and antimatter are in symmetry (as all observations seem to confirm), then theoretically our universe as we know it should not exist. Researchers at CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, recently set out to determine why the universe exists despite this symmetry that should’ve resulted in instantaneous annihilation. Unfortunately, the study didn’t turn up any differences. That leaves researchers back where they started. Scientists still believe there must be some undiscovered difference between matter and antimatter that allows our universe to exist. Otherwise, what makes the miracle of our existence possible? CBS NEWS science and futurist contributor, Dr. Michio Kaku, joins CBSN to help us face reality. WATCH NOW!
KAKU ON NEUTRON STAR GOLD
Astronomers struck gold this week, in more ways than one. For the first time, LIGO scientists have caught two neutron stars in the act of colliding — revealing that these cosmic smashups are the source of heavy elements like gold and platinum. The discovery was made by the same pioneering team that won this year’s Nobel Prize for its discovery of gravitational waves, once theorized and predicted by Albert Einstein. Famed futurist and theoretical physicist, Dr. Michio Kaku, joins Kennedy on FOX Business with more insights. WATCH NOW!
KAKU ON NEWEST GRAVITY WAVES
Early last year, scientists made a breakthrough discovery of gravitational waves in the wild, signaling the dawn of a new subfield of astronomy. This week, separate observatories in Washington, Louisiana, and Italy independently detected and collectively confirmed more gravitational waves in the wild — this time from the collision of two black holes about 2 billion light-years from Earth. Gravity waves pick up cosmic events that are invisible or nearly impossible to measure by any other means. By combining observations of a single event using multiple means, it’s now possible to gain a more complete understanding of the source’s properties than ever before. This method is called multi-messenger astronomy. CBS NEWS science and futurist contributor, Dr. Michio Kaku, joins CBSN to break down what this discovery means for the future of astronomy. WATCH NOW!
KAKU ON LATEST MEXICO EARTHQUAKE
More than 200 people lost their lives in Mexico City on Tuesday to a magnitude 7.1 earthquake centered in Mexico‘s state of Puebla. It remains to be seen if this seismic activity is related to the magnitude 8.1 quake that struck a nearby region just two weeks prior but most experts agree that a significant aftershock is all but imminent. CBS NEWS science and futurist contributor, Dr. Michio Kaku, spoke to CBSN on how earthquakes work and why this one was so devastating. WATCH NOW!
KAKU ON HURRICANE HARVEY
Hurricane Harvey has made landfall at the Texas Coast. Damages rage on with Harvey lingering and potentially intensifying. "The agony has just begun," warns CBS News science and futurist contributor, Dr. Michio Kaku on ‘CBS This Morning: Saturday’ as he explains the science behind this and other destructive storm surges. KAKU ON ‘COSMIC COINCIDENCE’
Millions plan to witness Monday’s coast-to-coast total solar eclipse that will move through a 70-mile-wide "Path of Totality" spanning over the United States across fourteen states from Oregon clear through to South Carolina. CBS News science and futurist contributor, Dr. Michio Kaku joins ‘CBS This Morning’ to discuss what he calls a once in a lifetime "cosmic coincidence" that should be on everyone’s bucket list. KAKU ON HISTORIC SOLAR ECLIPSE
On August 21, 2017, millions of people across the United States will witness a wondrous and historic spectacle — a total eclipse of the Sun. The Moon will completely block the Sun, daytime will become a deep twilight, and the Sun’s corona will shimmer in the dark sky. What makes this cosmic event rarer and more momentous is the eclipse’s "path of totality" which will darken skies along a straight line, spanning the nation from coast to coast. The so-called Great American Total Solar Eclipse will stretch about 70 miles wide from Oregon to South Carolina. Famed futurist and theoretical physicist, Dr. Michio Kaku, joins Kennedy on FOX Business with everything you need to know about the big event. WATCH NOW!
KAKU ON MUSK-ZUCKERBERG AI DEBATE
Does Artificial Intelligence represent a major threat to humankind or a major opportunity? Tesla & SpaceX visionary, Elon Musk believes the time is now to sound the alarms and assemble top thinkers and regulators with the mandate to address and contain the rising threat head-on. In sharp contrast, Facebook founder, Mark Zuckerberg, is bullish on AI and dismissive of alarmists like Musk. So, who has it right? Physicist and Futurist, Dr. Michio Kaku returns to CNN International’s ‘Quest Means Business’ to consider all sides of the debate and contribute his own insights. WATCH NOW!
KAKU ON NASA TRIP TO THE SUN
Scheduled for a Summer 2018 launch, NASA‘s Solar Probe Plus will orbit the sun within four million miles of its surface, closer than any prior mission. CBS News science and futurist contributor, Dr. Michio Kaku joins ‘CBS This Morning’ to discuss the historic journey. WATCH NOW!

KAKU ON HANFORD NUCLEAR TUNNEL COLLAPSE
An underground tunnel used to store abandoned railcars and filled with decades-old radioactive waste collapsed this week at the Washington state Hanford nuclear waste site, renowned as the most contaminated nuclear facility in the nation. Crews are investigating the cause of the collapse and responding to fears from residents of radioactive contamination. CBS News science and futurist contributor Dr. Michio Kaku joins from the ‘CBS This Morning’ newsroom to address the fallout. WATCH NOW!
KAKU ON CLOSE CALL WITH ASTEROID
Earth will have a close encounter today with a massive asteroid nicknamed "The Rock" by NASA, which first noticed it three years ago. "The Rock" is the largest such object to pass so close to Earth since 2004.
